LMU

In 2007 and 2008 the London Metropolitan University invited Frantic Assembly to write, deliver and assess a module of work for the Performing Arts Department.  The company had never considered delivering an education project in this way before, but jumped at the opportunity to create and lead a structured, skills-based, professional training course for degree level students.

The module was devised by artistic directors, Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett, and delivered by Frantic's Creative Learning Associate, Neil Bettles, over a 10 week period.

The aim of this module was to provide students with an opportunity to develop their physical performance and devising skills within the context of a professional company setting.  This meant developing professional awareness and an understanding of how to adapt and creatively respond to a company’s ethos.

Applying the skills and techniques learnt throughout the module students devised an original, collaborative, highly physical piece of theatre facilitated by Neil Bettles.  Drawing on Frantic Assembly’s working practices, all students contributed to the development process; working and performing as a professional company towards a work-in-progress performance at the end of the module.

The course was mainly practical, supported by theoretical and research based tasks to enhance learning and understanding of Frantic Assembly’s history, ethos and approaches to creating live theatre.
